Custom Furniture – The First Hand Way
Form and Function
Our commitment to beautifully functional furniture and customer service comes from our connection with our clients. We start by listening. It’s a simple thing, really, but the best way to collaborate, and create design solutions especially for you. With that foundation, we find the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality to create bespoke pieces that seem like they’ve always been there.
Locally Hand Crafted
All of our custom cabinets and furniture are handmade by the talented craftsmen in our Jacksonville Beach studio, and specifically designed to meet your family’s needs. The true value of custom furniture shows in the precision, care, and character in everything we make.
Professionally Installed
We promise to leave your home better than we found it. That’s all there is to it when we install custom cabinets and built-ins. We don’t cut corners, we don’t rush, and we won’t leave until you’re completely satisfied (well we might go home at bed time…but we’ll definitely come back).
What to Expect When You’re Expecting Custom Furniture
1. In Home Consultation
The best way to learn about your style and the unique needs of your family is to spend some time in your home. We offer in home consultation to discuss your project and provide a price estimate under no obligation. We invite you to take advantage of our years of experience to explore the possibilities for your space.
2. Estimate
Once we have all the necessary information, we can provide a formal proposal with detailed costs and a timetable. If you are ready to move ahead with the project, we require 10% of the payment to lock a slot in our production calendar. We then schedule a follow-up to set about creating your unique design and discuss the particulars of your project.
3. Design
As your production slot approaches, we present 3D renderings, photos, and/or samples. When you are happy with the final design, we are ready to build. Shortly before building begins, we require a 50% payment towards the construction of your project, including ordering materials.
4. Build
We craft as much of your custom furniture in our Jacksonville Beach shop as possible so there is minimum disruption to your home. We try to send pictures of the process while we’re working, but you’re always free to stop by and see our progress or just say Hi to Pearl.
5. Delivery & Installation
All installation is done by our own crafts people who are trained to make sure installation is done precisely.

Based in Jacksonville Florida, First Hand Custom Woodworks specializes in custom furniture and bespoke cabinetry. From farm tables to built-ins to custom cabinets, bookshelves, laundry rooms, offices, bunk beds, kitchen islands and beyond, First Hand Custom Woodworks takes a customer’s space, taste, and vision and creates that perfect, one-of-a-kind piece they’ve been searching for. Meet Our Makers
Brian Graves
A 3rd generation craftsman born and raised in Pittsburgh, Brian has been the public face of First Hand Woodworks since 2015 and he serves as our clients’ spirit guide through the magical world of custom furniture. His unhealthy customer service obsession and passion for designing beautiful furniture that “makes the most out of a space,” are the driving forces behind what we do here. Brian has a beautiful wife who tolerates less than perfect “test pieces” in their home, 2 children who wish he only made bunk beds, 3 on again/off again backyard chickens, and a dog named Pearl who vastly exceeds his own popularity.
Judd Dayrit
Judd has over 25 years of furniture and cabinet making experience and is, quite frankly, the only reason any actual work gets done. He combines meticulous attention to detail with creativity and half a lifetime of technical skill to create true works of art that consistently exceed customers’ expectations. Judd enjoys drinking apple cider vinegar, spending time outdoors with his dachshunds, Penny and June Bug, and playing with his grandkids.
George Cox
George is the only member of the team who can talk to robots. We’re honestly not really sure what he does, but he’s always smiling and Pearl seems to like him so we just leave him and his CNC machine alone in the back. George loves making robots do his bidding, fishing, spending time with his kids, and stealing Brian’s shirts
Pearl
Pearl has never actually built anything but she is passionate about shop safety and has never met a pile of sawdust that she didn’t want to lay in. She enjoys sleeping in the blazing hot parking lot, pretending she’s dead, and making large delivery trucks drive around her. She is the only member of the team to take a bath in the shop…and also the only member of the team to roll in otter poop
